Animals Win on American Idol

Carrie Underwood's iTunes song will benefit The HSUSIt’s something of a swan song for American Idol hopefuls, but it’s music to our ears at The HSUS. The song is “Home Sweet Home” and it’s the latest single from former Idol winner and country music star Carrie Underwood. It will play on American Idol each week as contestants are eliminated (airing at 9 p.m. ET on FOX) and the song's release will support The HSUS. (The song can be downloaded on iTunes starting now).

Carrie has a huge heart for animals and she’s been a longtime supporter of The HSUS. In a statement this week, she said, "I've always loved this song, and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes. So, we felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like The HSUS."

We’re so grateful to Carrie for her continuing generosity, and for taking this opportunity to bring her message of compassion for animals into one of the nation’s most popular shows. I hope you’ll download the song and help to spread the word.

I’d also like to thank another country music icon for her support. Emmylou Harris is fervent about helping pets in need, both through her own fostering operation, Bonaparte’s Retreat, and through her donations in support of our Emergency Services work. Emmylou has a birthday coming up next month, and she’s asked those who want to send her a birthday wish to donate to the Keeta Fund, dedicated to helping The HSUS help animal victims of disaster. She says it’s the best gift she could receive, and we agree.
