From Chicago to the Caribbean, blog readers were touched by the new, loving relationship of 12-year-old Terrence Murphy and his dog Elmo, and by Bella and Dieter, dachshund mixes who not only survived Haiti’s calamitous earthquake but, years earlier, also made it through Hurricane Katrina.
Earlier this week, we filed an initiative petition with the Attorney General of Ohio to direct the state’s newly constituted Livestock Board to set certain minimum humane standards that will prevent some of the worst and most inhumane and unsafe practices in industrial agriculture in Ohio.
Bob Barker last week announced a $1 million donation to support the effort in Pennsylvania to ban live pigeon shoots. It’s a tremendous investment of resources that could prove the death knell of these sickening events.
