Breaking news: Fashion icon Michael Kors goes fur-free

By on December 15, 2017 with 79 Comments By Wayne Pacelle

In the latest seismic shift in the industry, leading luxury fashion group Michael Kors (including its Jimmy Choo brand) has joined the fur-free movement by announcing today that it is going 100 percent fur-free. The company will phase out all fur products by the end of 2018.

Michael Kors Holdings Limited, which had a revenue of more than $4.7 billion in 2016, has been engaging with The HSUS since 2007, when the company eliminated raccoon dog fur from its line. One thing that’s become clear from our discussions is that innovations in faux fur and other fabrics have allowed Michael Kors to now shed real fur entirely.

“Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur,” said designer Michael Kors. “We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”

This year has been transformative for the fur-free movement with some of the biggest names in fashion pledging to go 100 percent fur-free. Along with the advances in faux fur, and the introduction of other innovative materials, it’s becoming clear that there is simply no reason to continue using a product that causes so much pain and suffering. If a company chooses to retain the look and feel of fur, it can do so without contributing to cruelty.

Gucci, Armani, Yoox Net-a-Porter, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and so many other fur-free companies recognize this fact. With such big names getting on board with the no-fur cause, companies clinging to fur in their fashion lines will be viewed by consumers as outliers, even as remorseless. The combination of human innovation and creativity has allowed us to march into a new era of fashion, making the greatest possible difference for animals.

Please join me in thanking Michael Kors for this ethical action by leaving a comment below, or on Facebook or Instagram.

I couldn’t buy the Michael Kors’ products and other Designers using real animal fur in the past because they weren’t cruelty free and i won’t pay to have animals tortured. *Fashion Designers: the consumers don’t agree that fashion should encourage torturing animals. Follow Michael Kors and all of the cruelty free Fashion Designers and i will buy your products!!

I hate this idea, I love his fox pom pom, They are a great accessory to his purses. If you don’t like it buy something else, do you wear shoes, or eat chickens, fish, cows, pigs, no cruelty to animals their

i have a faux fur pom pom on my michael kors bag & the quality is just as good & just as soft. you don’t need real fur for an item to be a luxury item. i see your point about eating animal meat but c’mon; eating the meat gives us nutrients that we need to survive whereas a pom pom is an accessory. A lot of people nowadays are vegans anyways.
